Exercise & Nutrition
Dietary and nutritional advice is also available. Healthy and sensible eating, together with aerobic exercise, is the most efficient way to reduce weight (fat) permanently and safely.
For an effective weight reduction programme, aerobic exercise must be emphasised. Depending on the current level of fitness and aims and objectives we may start with low intensity training progressing to interval training and then HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).
A weight loss programme (diet) without exercise can lead to considerable weight loss as a result of losses in the lean body mass (muscle tissue) without significant losses of excess body fat.
When individuals are over-weight, care should be taken to avoid activities that put excessive stress on the joints of the spine and lower limbs. Therefore jogging is not recommended initially. The preferred aerobic activities are stationary cycling, rowing, walking, swimming and light resistance training. These activities put minimal stress on the joints and require high levels of calorific output to perform.
Those wishing to lose weight (fat) will be given a body fat test. A realistic goal is set in conjunction with the client’s long-term aim, and a corresponding training programme is then established. The same is true for weight gain (increase in lean tissue).
